High-Vigor Maize Seeds Resist Fusarium graminearum Infection through Stronger Ca2+ Signaling

چکیده
Seeds with high vigor have strong resistance to various adverse environmental conditions. However, little is known about how seed affects the of seeds biotic stress. In this study, newly harvested that had and low vigor, achieved via an artificially accelerated aging treatment, were used in germination test after inoculation Fusariumgraminearum for 24 h. The results showed high-vigor seed-related seedling growth not significantly affected by F. graminearum infection, while those related low-vigor inhibited. Analysis transgenic maize expressing luminescent Ca2+ probe encoded aequorin indicated concentration free cytoplasm nucleus embryo cells was higher than seeds. Through experiment inhibitor treatment exogenous application, we further confirmed played important role growth. Interestingly, presence graminearum, required mainly came from vacuolar calcium pool, absence apoplastic store. This study helps understand resist disease provides theoretical support wide application agricultural production.

TaWRKY70 transcription factor in wheat QTL-2DL regulates downstream metabolite biosynthetic genes to resist Fusarium graminearum infection spread within spike
A semi-comprehensive metabolomics was used to identify the candidate metabolites and genes to decipher mechanisms of resistance in wheat near-isogenic lines (NILs) containing QTL-2DL against Fusarium graminearum (Fg). Metabolites, with high fold-change in abundance, belonging to hydroxycinnamic acid amides (HCAAs): such as coumaroylagmatine, coumaroylputrescine and Fatty acids: phosphatidic aci...
متن کاملBacterial endophytes from wild maize suppress Fusarium graminearum in modern maize and inhibit mycotoxin accumulation
Wild maize (teosinte) has been reported to be less susceptible to pests than their modern maize (corn) relatives. Endophytes, defined as microbes that inhabit plants without causing disease, are known for their ability to antagonize plant pests and pathogens. We hypothesized that the wild relatives of modern maize may host endophytes that combat pathogens. Fusarium graminearum is the fungus tha...
متن کاملThe transcriptome of Fusarium graminearum during the infection of wheat.
Fusarium graminearum causes head blight disease in wheat and barley. To help understand the infection process on wheat, we studied global gene expression of F. graminearum in a time series from 24 to 196 h after inoculation, compared with a noninoculated control. The infection was rapid and, after 48 h, over 4,000 fungal genes were expressed. The number of genes expressed increased over time up...
متن کاملThe Transcription Cofactor Swi6 of the Fusarium graminearum Is Involved in Fusarium Graminearum Virus 1 Infection-Induced Phenotypic Alterations
The transcription cofactor Swi6 plays important roles in regulating vegetative growth and meiosis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Functions of Swi6 ortholog were also characterized in Fusarium graminearum which is one of the devastating plant pathogenic fungi. Here, we report possible role of FgSwi6 in the interaction between F. graminearum and Fusarium graminearum virus 1 (FgV1) strain DK21. FgV1...
متن کاملChitosan treatment of wheat seeds induces resistance to Fusarium graminearum and improves seed quality.
Chitosan treatment (2-8 mg/mL) of wheat seeds significantly improved seed germination to recommended seed certification standards (>85%) and vigor at concentrations >4 mg/mL, in two cultivars of spring wheat (Norseman and Max), by controlling seed-borne Fusarium graminearum infection. The germination was <80% in the control and >85% in benomyl- and chitosan-treated seeds. Seed-borne F. graminea...
